Camera Crop Factor Calculator

Calculate crop factor from sensor diagonal compared with full frame.

Formula and method

This calculator uses the values you enter and applies the calculation immediately in your browser. The main output formulas are:

  • Crop factor: 43.266615305567875 / Math.sqrt(sensorWidth*sensorWidth + sensorHeight*sensorHeight)
  • Full-frame equivalent: lens * 43.266615305567875 / Math.sqrt(sensorWidth*sensorWidth + sensorHeight*sensorHeight)

Some formulas are undefined for certain input combinations, such as division by zero, equal x-values in a slope calculation, or logarithms of non-positive numbers. In those cases the live tool reports that the result is undefined instead of displaying Infinity or NaN.

Examples

  • Example: with Sensor width = 23.6 mm, Sensor height = 15.7 mm, Lens focal length = 35 mm, this calculator returns Crop factor = 1.53 x, Full-frame equivalent = 53.4 mm.
